L1 Assignment: Diagram Business Processes

L1 Assignment: Diagram Business Processes

Paper details:
• This exercise is RFID at grocery check-out, not trucking. Trucking was the exercise that we did in class to familiarize. Use this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eob532iEpqk
• Work is done and submitted to Moodle electronically in PowerPoint. Do not hand in a printed copy. Name the PowerPoint file FirstNameLastName (using your name) before uploading
• In both the ‘As Is’ and ‘To Be’ include Actors, Swimlanes, Activities, Arrows, and Decision Points where needed
• Follow all the instructions in Frost text – chapter 2, Assignment L1 and the Rubric in Moodle. The ‘As Is’ is prior to implementing an RFID system. ‘To Be’ is post implementation. Also, use the following additional assumptions and specific activities:

‘As Is’ Assumptions:
• Payment is made by a card of some type and not cash
• Involves a decision point (represented with a diamond) when payment is being requested. The payment may be authorized or declined, which may require making the payment by some other method or abandoning the shopping cart. Many payment methods could be attempted.
• The 2 ‘As Is’ actors are Shopper and Cashier. Assume that the ‘As Is’ state uses a human cashier instead of an automated terminal

‘As Is’ Activities (not in order):
• Provide debit or credit Card
• Print receipt
• Collect items to purchase
• Refuse all payment attempts
• Leave store
• Scan, tabulate and bag Items
• Abandon shopping cart
• Enter Store to shop
• Request payment
• Proceed to check-out and put items on conveyor
• Authorize payment
• Give receipt

‘To Be’ Assumptions:
• The 4 ‘To Be’ actors are Shopper, RFID/Auto-Pay Terminal, Grocery Items/Smartphone, Security Guard
• The check-out area is scanning both grocery items and smartphone (for payment similar to ApplePay)
• Involves a decision point (represented with a diamond) when payment is being scanned. The payment may be authorized or declined, which may require making the payment by some other method that will be negotiated with the security guard. Assume the payment is made somehow.

‘To Be’ Activities (not in order):
• Pay with alternative method
• Decline payment
• Authorize payment
• Collect items to Purchase
• Give receipt
• Approach Shopper to resolve payment Issue
• Scan RFID item tags and payment ID in check-out area
• Print receipt
• Record and tabulate items and attempt to authorize payment
• Leave Store
• Proceed to walk though check-out
• Respond to scanner with identity
• Enter Store to shop
